2. Adding a word and managing your personal dictionary
To use SpellCheck, the Entry type must be set to 'Word entry'. If not already set, do this by pressing:
'Entry Type' (7 long)
This key toggles between 'Key entry' and 'Word entry'.
As explained in the 'Typing using Word entry' page, you can configure the 'Alphanumeric input settings' task to use 'Word entry' by default.
To use SpellCheck you need to first type the word you want to check; this word is entered into the Word control.
In this example, using the technique you learned before, type the text 'helo' (the word 'hello' misspelt).
To SpellCheck this word press:
SpellCheck (6 long)
You are switched to the SpellCheck mode.
If at least more than one suggested word is found, a list of suggested words is presented. In this case the word 'hello' is the first one found. You can scroll the list using the Up and Down keys to find other suggestions. You can listen to the suggested word in focus including its spelling by pressing:
Content (9 long)
If you are not sure where you are press:
'Where am I?' (3 long)
The mode, Function set and other relevant information is announced.
The dictionaries used are implemented as functions. If you press a few times
Function (7)
you will find only one function: 'Combined general English and Personal dictionaries'. This means that SpellCheck is performed against both the general English and Personal dictionaries.
When you are satisfied with a suggested word (in this case 'hello') press:
Select (5)
You are switched back to the 'Alphanumeric input' mode and the word you typed before, in our example 'helo', is replaced by 'hello'.
You can modify this replaced word if you wish, add the word to your personal dictionary, and usually press:
Space (3 long)
to submit the word followed by a space to the SpeakOn control in focus.
Alternatively in the SpellCheck mode, if you just wish to submit directly the suggested word to the SpeakOn control press:
Space (3 long)
You are switched back to the 'Alphanumeric input' mode, the word you typed before, in our example 'helo', is replaced by 'hello'
and this replaced word followed by a space is submitted to the SpeakOn control in focus.
In the SpellCheck mode, you don't have to accept any of the suggested words and can switch back to the 'Alphanumeric input' mode by pressing:
Escape (0 long)
No action is taken.
In the 'Alphanumeric input' mode, provided that the 'Word entry' type is set, you can add the word in the Word control to your SpellCheck personal dictionary by pressing:
'Add word to dictionary' (5 long)
You will be notified if the operation is successful.
Note that adding this word to the SpellCheck personal dictionary must be done before submitting this word to the SpeakOn control as after submission, the Word control is cleared.
Note that when adding a word to the SpellCheck personal dictionary, it is the responsibility of the user to make sure the correct case is applied; each combination of upper and lower cases is considered to be distinct word in the personal dictionary.
You can manage your personal dictionary using the 'Alphanumeric input SpellCheck dictionary manager' task as explained in
Alphanumeric input spell check dictionary manager
You can get help at any time. Two modes of help are available: 'Help list' and 'Help input'
To toggle between 'Help list' and 'Help input' press:
Help (1 long)
The 'Help list' mode provides a list of keys and their actions. Simply scroll Up and Down to examine the list. You can memorize relevant keys and their actions for future use or press:
Select (5)
The action is performed as if you pressed these keys and you are switched back to the SpellCheck mode.
The 'Help input' mode enables you to discover the action associated with the keys. Simply press (or long press) the various keys; their action is announced.
To switch back to the SpellCheck mode press:
Escape (0 long)
