Starting SpeakOn

To start SpeakOn, either use the icon on the desktop or alternatively start it from the Programs menu available in all Widndows versions.

When you start SpeakOn, a plain window appears. The window has no widgets or menu and it is only there to indicate that SpeakOn is running and to make sure that SpeakOn receives the keyboard input.

You will need to form a mental picture of what SpeakOn is doing and where you are in the system by listening to the speech synthesizer.

After SpeakOn has started, it will tell you if you are not connected to the internet. This could be a simple case of your connection being lost but it is also possible that you are behind a firewall which prevents Java (the language that SpeakOn is using) from connecting to the internet. If this is the case, you will need to consult your firewall manual and make sure that Java can communicate freely with the internet. Please note that SpeakOn simply requests files and does not pass any information from your computer to anybody.

When you start SpeakOn, the Manager task is started automatically and remains running as long as you use SpeakOn.
